Production Shift Manager


Position Summary:
The Production Shift Manager is responsible for leading shift operations to ensure productivity, quality, and safety goals are met. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and a hands-on approach to managing people and processes in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions:

Performance Analysis & Optimization

  • Review and analyze daily and monthly production reports to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.

  • Recommend and implement actionable solutions to enhance individual and team output.

Team Training & Development

  • Ensure all team members are properly trained for their roles.

  • Partner with HR to create and monitor Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for team members with identified skill gaps.

Equipment Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with the Equipment Maintenance Manager to address equipment-related issues promptly.

  • Escalate critical maintenance problems or equipment-related production delays to senior leadership as necessary.

Performance Management

  • Identify and address team performance issues in coordination with HR.

  • Maintain accurate and timely employee documentation, forwarding records to HR as appropriate.

Employee Engagement & Morale

  • Monitor team morale and engagement regularly.

  • Work with HR to implement strategies that promote a positive, motivated, and productive work environment.

Evaluations & Career Pathing

  • Conduct annual and scheduled performance evaluations.

  • Identify career growth opportunities for team members and collaborate with HR to secure training and development resources.

 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in direct mail, postal operations, or manufacturing management strongly preferred.

  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions and adapt to shifting priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive and professional working relationships.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer systems.

  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including before or after scheduled shifts and weekends, as needed.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 2:30pm-10:30pm or Sunday-Thursday 10:30pm-6:30am with frequent overtime on weekends as required based on business needs.
